[C-14-3] Design and Fabrication of MMI Coupler for Advanced Antenna-Coupled Electrode Electro-Optic Modulators

EOMs using combination of LiNbO3 crystal, Antenna-Coupled Electrode (ACE), polarization reversal structure, and MMI couplers have been proposed and developed. In this paper, we report the design and fabrication of MMI coupler for advanced ACE-EOMs. BPM simulation is used to obtain several types of output operation of the MMI coupler. Design and simulation of 1x2 MMI coupler wavelength divider has been reported with >10 dB splitting ratio and input light wavelength at 1.31μm and 1.58μm. In application of advanced ACE-EOMs, three channels or more channels power divider also can be used based on its requirements. Three channels MMI coupler with the input wavelength 1.58μm is reported. The designed three channels MMI coupler successfully divides input signal into three channels with 33% power splitting ratio and 6.58 dB insertion loss.
