[31A-02] Perception of Distance and Direction Using Virtual Tactile Dots

○Tetsuya Watanabe1, Hirotsugu Kaga2, Tsubasa Yagi3 (1.Faculty of Engineering, Niigata University, 2.Graduate School of Science and Technology, Niigata University, 3.NEC Solution Innovators, Ltd.)

Virtual tactile dots on a touchscreen feedback either of or both speech and vibration when touched. To investigate their effectiveness in map reading application without seeing the screen, we conducted two experiments with twelve participants in which participants perceived the distance and direction between two virtual tactile dots. Their results show that the perception of direction by virtual tactile dots was accurate enough. However, perceived distances were shorter than those presented.
