[31B-01] Effects of Vertical Disparity on Humans in Artificial Stereoscopic Vision

○Katsuhiro Sasaki1, Norihiro Sugita1, Makoto Yoshizawa2 (1.Graduated school of engineering, Tohoku Univ., 2.Cyber science center, Tohoku Univ.)

The vertical disparity of both eyes caused by tilting of the head in watching 3D TVs or 3D movies is a candidate of causes inducing visual fatigue or the so-called 3D sickness. To ascertain this hypothesis, we performed an experiment in which 12 healthy subjects were watching a 3D video with a rotated 3D display inducing the vertical disparity. The results indicated that the case of 3D condition with the vertical disparity increased feelings of eye strain and disorientation and significant fatigues were recognized with flicker tests in comparison with other conditions: a 3D case without the vertical disparity or a 2D case.
