Professor Meng-Chih Lee is now the Distinguished Chair Professor and Senior Consultant Physician ( the Former Superintendent )of Chung Shan Medical University and Taichung Hospital, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Taiwan and also a Visiting PI of the Institute of Population Health Sciences , National Health Research Institutes (NHRI). He served as Professor and Dean of the School of Medicine and School of Public Health, Chung Shan Medical University, Taichung, Taiwan during 2002-2004 and 1993-1995, respectively. Dr. Lee also served as the Former Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning as well as the Center for Education and Research on Geriatric Care at the Chung Shan Medical University during 2001-2011. He had been Professor and Chairman of the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the Chung Shan Medical University Hospital during 1990-2001. Prof. Meng-Chih Lee has published more than 100 scientific papers on family medicine, community medicine, geriatric medicine and medical education.

Doctors of the Future

Amanda Howe
Amanda Howe is a practising family doctor, an academic professor, and a national and international leader in family medicine. Since 2001, she has been Professor of Primary Care at the Norwich Medical School, University of East Anglia, where she was part of the founding team for a new medical programme. She has particular expertise in the teaching and learning of professionalism and patient safety; in the models and effectiveness of involving family medicine in community based medical education; and in resilience and doctors’ well-being. She also has clinical research interests in primary care mental health, the contribution of patients to health care, and in early interventions for risk factors. She served from 2009 – 2015 as an Officer of the Royal College of General Practitioners, previously chairing their research committee and the U.K. Society for Academic Primary Care. She is Immediate Past President of the World Organization of Family Doctors, having served as President from 2016-2018.

Ryuki Kassai

Dr Kassai is a founding Professor and Chair of the Department of Community and Family Medicine at Fukushima Medical University, Fukushima, Japan. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Japan Primary Care Association and acts as Senior Advisor of its International Committee. He graduated from Hokkaido University School of Medicine, Sapporo, and completed a residency training in family medicine at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. In 1996 he founded the Hokkaido Centre for Family Medicine (HCFM) and started the first formal family medicine training program in Japan. After having made the HCFM a successful model of Japanese residency program, Dr Kassai moved to Fukushima to found the first medical school department of community-based family medicine in Japan at Fukushima Medical University in 2006. He is a Vice Chair of the Organizing Committee, and Chair of the Scientific Program Committee of WONCA APR 2019 Kyoto.

Shinn-Jang Hwang
Professor Hwang graduated from National Yang-Ming Medical University, School of Medicine, Taipei Taiwan. He is currently the President of the Taiwan Association of Family Medicine. He is also the Vice Superintendent of Taipei Veterans General Hospital, a tertiary referred medical center, and Professor in the National Yang-Ming University School of Medicine. Professor Hwang is actively participating in the promotion of Family Medicine in Taiwan. He was the Chief, Division of Community Medicine, Department of Family Medicine, and the Director, Department of Family Medicine in Taipei Veterans General Hospital. He had been the Superintendent of the Taipei Municipal Yang-Ming Hospital, a 600-bed regional hospital, and had been the President of Taiwan College of Family Practice. He pay much effort in the research and teaching in the fields of Family Medicine, Community Medicine, Geriatrics and Hospice Palliative Care. He has published 333 scientific papers since 1988.
