[15A-SIS3-01] Special Invited: Emergence of Several Sinter-Based AM Technologies

*A. Bose1 (1.AMfgLabs LLC, USA)

キーワード:Sinter-based Additive Manufacturing (AM), Binder Jet, Sintering , Separate shaping and consolidation steps

The ability of Additive Manufacturing (AM) to fabricate parts without tooling and with greater design freedom than other metal shaping processes, has resulted in its rapid expansion since the turn of the century. The early AM commercialization was led by melt-based processes (laser, e-beam), whose limitations led to the proliferation of a broad AM platform classified as “sinter-based AM” where geometrical shaping and consolidation steps are separated. Several sinter-based AM processes have emerged and some are on the verge of commercialization, spearheaded by binder jet (BJ) technology that can produce high volume, complex net or near-net shaped metal or alloy parts at a lower cost compared to the more established laser powder bed fusion-based process. This presentation will provide a background on the developments of some sinter-based AM processes along with some of their advantages and limitations.
