[15D-SIS4-01] Special Invited: Trends and Sustainability in the European MIM Industry

*S. B. Hein1 (1.Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Technology and Advanced Materials IFAM, Germany)

Keywords:MIM, Metal Injection Molding, sustainability

The metal injection molding (MIM) process is a worldwide industrialized powder metallurgical manufacturing process for complex parts in large quantities. Manufacturers that make use of this series production process are of course trying to expand their business by making MIM better known and improving the process technologically. At the same time, pressure for cost reduction is all present, and there is a growing demand by customers and/or politics, to provide more information on the sustainability of the MIM process and MIM parts. With a clear focus on the European MIM industry, current trends in MIM will be highlighted and a deeper look into the topic of sustainability will be given.
