[16C-SIS6-03] Application of Warm Isostatic Pressing to Densification of All Solid-State Composite Cathode Electrodes in All Solid-State Lithium-Ion Batteries

All solid-state batteries (ASSB) have been attracting attention due to its potential to improve the performance of Li-ion batteries. Controlling of interfacial properties is crucial to realize ASSB adequate for automobile application. Warm isostatic pressing (WIP) is promising for densification of materials in ASSB. In this study, the microstructure of the composite cathode electrodes and battery performance was correlated. The structure of the composite electrode was examined by X-ray computed tomography. Electrochemical characterization was investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and charge-discharge performance. The composite electrodes consisting of mixture of Li(Ni1/3Mn1/3Co1/3)O2 (NMC) and Li6PS5Cl were pressed with WIP. The charge-discharge properties were improved with temperature during WIP, suggesting reduction of resistance related to charge-transfer. It was concluded that the application of WIP to the all-solid-state composite electrode fabrication process is quite effective to improve the electrochemical performance of ASSB.
