Due to the low sintered density of PM components, the application of 17-4PH stainless steel in the PM field is restricted. This study focuses on improving the sintered density and mechanical properties of press-and-sinter 17-4 PH parts through optimizing processing parameters and using spray-dried MIM powder. The results indicate that sintering temperature and furnace atmosphere play crucial roles in the sintering behavior of 17-4PH. Increasing the sintering temperature promotes the formation of the δ phase, which has a higher diffusion rate, and facilitates the spheroidization of pores. After sintering at 1320°C in H2, we attain a sintered density of 7.4 g/cm³, a tensile strength of 900 MPa, an elongation near 6%, and a hardness of HRC 27. Subsequent to solution, quenching, and aging heat treatment, the sintered 17-4 PH demonstrates a robust tensile strength of 1200 MPa while maintaining a moderate level of impact toughness.
