[16P-T10-07] Preparation of Lepidocrocite and Maghemite by the Addition of Calcite into Iron(Ⅱ) Chloride Solution
キーワード:iron oxides, formation mechanism, microstructure
Maghemite (γ-Fe2O3) has attracted much attention as a consequence of the unique magnetic, electrical and medical properties. Maghemite is produced by the oxidation of magnetite (Fe3O4) or the dehydration of lepidocrocite (γ-FeOOH). Lepidocrocite is obtained by oxidizing an iron(Ⅱ) chloride solution at pH≈6.0. We found that lepidocrocite is obtained by the addition of calcite into the iron(Ⅱ) chloride solution. Maghemite was also found to be obtained by this reaction. We report formation mechanisms of lepidocrocite and maghemite, and also microstructures and magnetic properties of the samples obtained in this study.
