Powder magnetic cores used in reactors are required to have low iron loss, and alloy materials are used as low iron loss powder magnetic core materials. However, powder magnetic cores made from alloy materials have an issue with low strength. To compensate for the low strength, we have been investigating a method of adding low melting point glass powder, which has a low softening point than the annealing temperature of the powder magnetic core. Adding glass powder increased the strength of powder magnetic cores, but this caused a problem of significantly worsening iron loss. This report is results of investigating the characteristics of glass to achieve both properties of high strength and low iron loss.
