Sintered parts can be mass-produced with high precision and cost-effectiveness, and have a wide range of applications, including automobiles. Since conventional sintered materials tend to show smaller fatigue strength than that of wrought steel, it cannot be applied to high load applications. The effect of homogeneity in sintered material’s microstructure on fatigue strength has been investigated in many research. In this research, we compared fatigue strength between homogeneous and heterogeneous materials. Our study revealed that the homogenous material showed significantly higher fatigue strength than the heterogeneous one. Also, the effect of elemental homogeneity on crack occurrence and propagation in sintered materials was investigated through microstructure observation by SEM and nanoindentation method. Details will be reported in oral presentation.
