Directed Energy Deposition (DED) is one of the additive manufacturing technologies, in which metal powder is melted using a laser beam. This technology is used to repair damaged parts, replace lost materials, or restore parts to their original shape. Therefore, various studies on the DED method have been conducted. However, study on the SCM440-P21 multi-material fabricated by the DED method is lacking.

In this study, commercially produced SCM440 substrate and P21 powders were used, and P21 powders were deposited by DED on top of SCM440 substrate. Microstructure was analyzed using SEM, EPMA, and EBSD. Then, mechanical properties such as hardness and tensile property were measured. The correlation between the excellent mechanical properties of SCM440-P21 multi-material was explained in terms of microstructure.
