[16P-T22-01] Preparation and Microstructure of Bluish Glass
Keywords:bluish glass, microstructure, iron ion
Color of glass is mainly caused by transition and rare earth elements in glass. The glass containing iron ions produces bluish or greenish colors. The bluish color results from the d-d transition of iron ions in the glass, causing absorption of visible light. The ration of Fe2+/ Fe3+ in glass is also important for colorization. However, chemical state of iron ions in the bluish glass have remained unclear. We succeeded in producing the bluish glass by mixing carbon as a reductant in the starting materials. Here, we report the preparation method and microstructure of the bluish glass.
