Keywords:Al-Cu-Mg alloy plates, Powder metallurgy, Hot extrusion

Al-Cu-Mg alloy plates with excellent mechanical properties were prepared by powder metallurgy and hot extrusion. T39 heat treatment was conducted with solid solution at 490 ℃, subsequently pre-aging for 5 h, then cold rolling with 11% reduction, and ultimately natural aging for 96 h. Microstructural evolution of the sintered alloys and extruded plates was investigated by SEM, EBSD and TEM. The tensile properties were tested by universal mechanical testing machine. After heat treatment, 12 nm Al2Cu and Al2CuMg precipitates were embedded inside the fine grains, while 10 nm MgAl2O4 particles were located at the sub-boundaries. The optimal comprehensive performance was attained owing to grain refinement, precipitation strengthening and dispersion strengthening. Along the parallel and perpendicular to the extrusion direction, the ultimate tensile strength was 533 MPa and 532 MPa, with yield strength of 448 MPa and 427 MPa, and the elongation of 11.3% and 13.9%, respectively.
