[15B-T6-15] Development of High Silicon Stainless Steel by Laser Powder Bed Fusion
Keywords:additive manufacturing, laser powder bed fusion, precipitation-hardening stainless steel, silicon
Forgings and castings of high-silicon stainless steel have already been used in practical applications. However, high-silicon stainless steel components manufactured using powder metallurgy processes have not been used practically yet. In this study, laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) was applied to precipitation-hardening stainless steel containing 3.5% silicon. A process window and optimal printing conditions for high-silicon stainless steel using L-PBF were determined. Samples with relative densities of 99% or higher were fabricated using L-PBF. Furthermore, the effects of the heat treatment on the mechanical properties of the samples were studied. This study obtained the aged samples with a hardness equivalent to conventional forgings.
