Additive Manufacturing (AM), including Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF), offer the possibility of small-lot, low-cost manufacturing of expensive, high-strength metallic components. For FFF, highly loaded filled metal powders can be produced by first extruding polymeric filaments to create green part, and then debinding and sintering to produce metal part. The filaments employed in this paper were prepared from M2 high-speed steel (M2 HSS) powders and polyoxymethylene-based binder, which have been less discussed in previous studies of M2 HSS in FFF printing. As prepared by FFF, the green part was first catalytic debinding under oxalic acid atmosphere, followed by thermal debinding and sintering from a protective atmosphere of argon gas. After heat treatment, the produced M2 HSS was evaluated in terms of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and mechanical characterization (hardness and wear resistance) to verify the feasibility of preparing M2 HSS by FFF.
