The aim of this research is to develop a hardfacing alloy suitable for applications requiring high abrasion and impact wear resistance, utilizing the Calculation of Phase Diagrams (CALPHAD) technique within the Fe-C-Cr-Ni-Mn-Si-Ti-B system. The thermodynamic data collected in the database can be employed to predict the phase constitutions of the alloy for iron-based hardfacing materials. To validate theoretical calculations, a premixed hardfacing alloy powder was produced through a mechanical alloying process, combining pre-atomized powder and ferro-alloy powder to achieve the desired composition. The resulting powder was deposited onto an SS316 substrate using the laser cladding technique. The microstructure and chemical composition of the deposited weld overlay was examined using optical and scanning electron microscopy, along with X-ray diffraction to identify the phases present. A comparison of experimental and computed results was analyzed in terms of the presence of all phases and their impact on hardness and wear behavior.
