Christoph U. Lehmann1,2 (1.米国バンダービルト大学医療情報学・小児科学教授, 2.国際医療情報学会(IMIA)会長)

Summary: When was the last time you heard someone exclaim “I loved staying at Hospital X. It was a wonderful experience.” Never?
Health care experiences generally are unpleasant to patients especially in inpatient settings. Long waiting times, interruptions of sleep, confusion, lack of understanding, terrible food, lack of modification of care based on individual choices, lost belongings, great boredom, interruption of other important life activities all combine to terrible experiences.
In this presentation, we will explore the great potential of Secondary Data Use to improve the hospital experience. As a result of routine care, data collected for documentation and other purposes have the potential to be reused and leverage to improve comfort, education, treatment, confidence, and wellbeing of our patients. Visions of reducing interruptions to patients, improving their environment and diet, leverage their medical data to provide targeted information, bringing them closer to their providers, and making the hospital experience more restful will be discussed. Dr. Lehmann will inspire the audience to carry the dream to their own institutions and seek opportunities to improve patient care experiences at home.
