[AP1-E2-3-04] 3D Printed Face Shield for COVID-19: A Website Providing Safety Information for Makers
COVID-19, 3D Printing, Face Shield, Civic Tech
We focus on the creation of 3D printed face shields as part of the medical support for the COVID-19. In this emergent situation, all over the world, individuals, civic groups, and companies involved with 3D printing, or who own 3D printers, have been trying to fabricate face shields and deliver them where needed as quickly as possible. On the other hand, because these face shields were being fabricated by the non-medical sector, safety considerations for face shields used in medical settings were not always sufficient. We review the cases of 3D printer face shield fabrication efforts and examined what challenges exist for use in medical settings. Furthermore, we extracted the type of information that needed to be provided for use in the medical field and constructed a website to disseminate this information.
