Healthcare Infomation and Communication Standards Organization(HELICS) was established in 2001 and has been engaged in standardization activities. Its activities include discussions on standardization policy and content in order to achieve consistent activities among standardization organizations regarding methods, codes and storage formats for electronic exchange of patient information and other information handled by medical information systems. At the same time, the HELICS recommends standards to be used in each field of use, establishes guidelines, and provides medical information standardization reports. Twenty-six HELICS recommended standards out of 28 are approved by Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.
This tutorial will provide an overview of the latest status of HELICS member organizations' efforts to standardize medical information.
