[3-B-2-01] Vulcan Interoperability Bridge (VIB) event – A demonstration of the future of connectivity between Clinical Care and Research

*Amy Cramer1 (1. Johnson & Johnson (Vulcan Founder))

The HL7 Vulcan Accelerator exists to bring together Clinical Care and Research by building experience and practical guidance on the use of the HL7 FHIR® standard for communication between these two sectors. Vulcan is global in scope and has members including Pharmaceutical Companies, Regulators, Academic Centers and also other Standards Development Organizations (SDOs).
The VIB event (Vulcan Interoperability Bridge) aims to accelerate the adoption of healthcare data standards for research – underscoring the value of using HL7 FHIR® to solve existing challenges and explore novel opportunities in research data interoperability. Teams have been created by Vulcan to concentrate on opportunities for improvement in research focus areas. This will demonstrate how much can already be achieved to improve connectivity using existing FHIR® Implementation Guides. The process begins in August 2024 and will present live demonstrations in a public webinar in February 2025.
This talk will describe progress so far and discuss the opportunities for involvement.
This initial event is run in coordination with the U.S. Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy and Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, ASTP/ONC and the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA).
Vulcan has international scope and is interested in running similar events elsewhere.
