[SC-A-04] Green Hydrogen and Fuel Cells for the Future Sustainable Growth
Considering the future sustainable growth of human beings, renewable energies should be the primary energy. In that way we need technologies to store and transport renewable energies. The Green Hydrogen is the clean energy carrier that is made from water using renewable energies. By the comparison of environmental impact factor, the Green Hydrogen could keep our environment 2 orders of magnitude cleaner compared to that of fossil fuels. Once we could get Green Hydrogen, we could produce clean electricity through fuel cells without any pollutants. Fuel cells are electrochemical systems where the ORR catalyst is a key in order to get high efficiency. Polymer electrolyte fuel cells have started their commercialization for home cogenerations and fuel cell vehicles. They use Pt cathode right now. We are developing non precious metal oxide cathode for polymer electrolyte fuel cells using group 4 and 5 metal oxides. The onset potential of ORR of our materials has exceeded that of Pt. A fuel cell test of our material showed more than 0.6 A/cm2 at 80oC. These new material could contribute to promote the Green Hydrogen Energy System.
