[SC-B-02] Recent progress for ultra-high resolution LCDs based on LTPS technologies

Y. Aoki (Japan Display Inc. (Japan))

In this seminar, high-resolution LCDs based on LTPS technologies and the latest progress of ultra-high resolution technology applications based on Virtual Reality (VR) will be presented. The satisfied conditions for real images and image quality “beautifulness” of Japanese fonts will be discussed, especially in terms of high resolution performance. We developed a 3.25-inch diagonal size LCD with an ultra-high resolution of 1001 ppi for VR applications. We adopted an ultra-high resolution pixel design, impulse type backlight blinking, and the latest SLC-IPS technologies with response times of less than 2.2 ms. Good display performances, such as Screen-Door Effect (SDE) reduction, and improvement of moving picture performance, were confirmed. Finally, a resolution of more than 1000 ppi for VR applications will be discussed.
