[SC-B-03] OLED Microdisplays
During this course we discuss how we use a microdisplay. For the introduction we show where microdisplays are used today . These are in near the eye displays in a Headset or Head Mounted display (HMD). We show where they are used today. Following today we show the future potential uses. We show the other displays usable in HMDs and discuss the advantages of OLED microdisplays.
Next we show the displays and technology in the displays. Almost all full color OLED microdisplays are made with white emitting OLED and color filters. We discuss the needed equipment and capability for manufacturing. We show the fabrication process and give pictures of my company’s equipment. We give some details on the hermetic seal needed for OLED. We show performance of this seal process. Lifetime is very important for display performance, the course presents our equipment as an example of what is needed.
Next we review the Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality by looking at the market, opportunities and display characteristics needed. We show why OLED microdisplays will make an important contribution to this market. Here details are shown for what is needed.
We discuss the features of the silicon wafer backplane. This shows the advantage of OLED on silicon.
Finally we discuss direct patterning for side-by-side Red, Green and Blue OLED on our high PPI (therefore small pixel pitch) displays. This gives high brightness microdisplays. We discuss the path to develop this technology and the advantages of brightness and color.
