[H-6-05] Phonon-assisting injection three quantum-levels terahertz quantum cascade lasers for high-temperature operation
This study investigates the impact of parasitic absorption on the performance of terahertz quantum cascade lasers that use the nonalignment injection scheme via direct-phonon resonance. It finds the nonrelevant quantum levels can inherently limit the optical gain in this concept based on two quantum wells architecture, even along a low temperature. To mitigate this issue, a suppression strategy by increasing the injection energy is proposed to isolate the relevant levels. Experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of this strategy by achieving a lasing at 194 K.
