[2M05] Neutron Response of Ionization Survey Meter

*Yoshitomo Uwamino1, Hiroki Mukai2 (1. JRIA, 2. RIKEN Nishina Center)

Keywords:ionization-chamber survey meter, mixed field, neutron response

The measured dose when the gamma-ray ionization-chamber survey meter is placed in a mixed field of neutrons and gamma-rays is the summation of these two components. The contribution of neutrons is calculated using the PHITS Monte Carlo code. For thermal neutrons, a response of about 60% of the H*(10) neutron dose is shown. When the neutron energy is 10 keV to 1 MeV, the response is less than 2%, but when it exceeds 5 MeV, the response becomes about 10% or more.
