Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) has collected information of several precedent examples to clarify effective data Digital Object Identifier (DOI) workflow since 2015, and started to assign DOI to an oceanographic research data in 2017. In JpGU2018, we introduced development of the Data DOI Management System to manage DOI metadata and generate landing pages. We will report the current status including following topics in this presentation.

- Functional enhancement for related database
The Data and Sample Research System for Whole Cruise Information (DARWIN) disseminates information of research cruise, dive, observation data and samples obtained by JAMSTEC's research vessels and submersibles. DARWIN has been enhanced to allow linkage of DOI metadata with the Data DOI Management System via Web API to achieve effective DOI maintenance for a large amount of content.

- Survey of DOI for research data
A wide variety of databases depending on the disciplines, research project, and types of data are disseminated by several departments and groups within JAMSTEC. Therefore, a survey of minting DOI for research data is being conducted to grasp data creators' needs. We extracted the target databases from catalog metadata published in JAMSTEC data catalog. The questions in this survey ask about ownership of data, conditions for data usage, granularity of DOI assignment, and continuity of database services.

The first edition of guidelines for minting DOIs for research data in JAMSTEC will be developed based on the practical operation of systems and the survey results by the end of the year 2019.
