2:30 PM - 2:45 PM

In the transportation and storage system of hydrogen, being proprietary technology, by using methylcyclohexane/toluene carrier, development of dehydrogenation catalysts with high activity and stability are significant key technologies. In order to further improve resistance to coke formation, modified dehydrogenation catalyst, consisting of platinum supported on aluminum oxide, was newly developed by Chiyoda Corporation. It was demonstrated that this proprietary catalyst gave excellent performance in small reactor at commercial scale. In this presentation, excellent performance of the present modified catalyst will be presented.

In the sea area around Hokkaido, the existence of bottom simulating reflectors (BSR) has been confirmed off Abashiri, Okushiri Island, Hidaka, and Tokachi. In November 2020, we succeeded in collecting methane hydrate present in the surface layer of the seafloor in the Pacific Ocean off Tokachi. Attempts a direct reforming methane dissociated from the methane hydrate, was successfully hydrogen generation by a chemical reaction that does not generate carbon dioxide. In addition, carbon could be recovered as carbon nanotubes with high utility value.

In the direct methane reforming reaction (DMR), hydrogen can be produced without generating carbon dioxide. At the same time, highly conductive nanocarbon can also be obtained. However, in order to put it into practical use, it is necessary to reduce the cost of the catalyst. Therefore, an iron oxide-alumina catalyst was prepared by the coprecipitation method, the deposition method, and the physical mixing method, and DMR was tried. As a result, it was found that the DMR activity and nanocarbon diameter differ depending on the preparation method, and the dispersibility of iron oxide is involved. Also showed activity in simple physical mixing method.
