[16a-Z04-2] Formation process of metastable calcium carbonate polymorphs in aqueous solution

Keywords:metastable phase, calcium carbonate, visualization

Formation process of calcium carbonate polymorphs has been extensively investigated, however our knowledge is far from complete. Here we report our theoretical and experimental approaches to understand the mechanism of metastable formation of calcium carbonate. Newly derived technique for two-dimensional imaging of local distribution of pH/Ca2+ concentration around dissolving/forming CaCO3 crystals could provide new insights into the dissolution/formation mechanism of CaCO3 polymorphs.
