Keywords:Nanowires, Zinc Oxide, Rare-earth doped semiconductors

Semiconductor nanowires have recently attracted both of scientific and possible practical attention towards advent of ultra-smart societies owing to their feasibility to further miniaturize the dimension of semiconductor optical devices. In this symposium, we introduce and discuss our recent research activities regarding the formation, optical characteristics and possible device application of nanowires based on wide-gap ZnO with high bio-compatibility and rare-earth-doped ZnO films on the NWs.
