Coherent receivers are expected to have various applications such as OCT, LiDAR, coherent OTDR, and optical computating, in addition to coherent optical communication systems. For these applications, it is desirable to realize a normal-incident receiver which has high parallelization. However, due to the difficulty of realizing optical hybrids, there are few implementation examples.
In this paper, we propose a normal-incident homodyne receiver with polarizer-integrated photodetectors, which greatly simplifies the optical hybrid, and present the results of the device design.
