Clouds control the radiative balance in the atmosphere. At night, clouds can absorb long-wave radiation from the ground and re-radiate these radiation to Earth and space. Re-radiated long-wave radiation can raise temperatures near the ground. In this research, long-term continuous observation at night is performed by a camera system using a commercial camera. This report discusses 44-month nighttime cloud observations, as well as current networking activities and future plans for nighttime cloud detection.
