[18p-Z06-2] Towards a more desirable future in the Post-Moore era

The development of semiconductors has been guided by various roadmaps since the mid-1980s, and miniaturization has remained a core principle behind improved integrated circuit performance for several decades. However, has this continued belief begun to obstruct our innovative thinking? The speaker argues that the creation of new frontiers in the post-Moore era may require the adoption of completely new perspectives. To initiate open discussions, break fresh ground, and create “the future we want” rather than the “future that should be,” Tokyo Institute of Technology established the Laboratory for Design of Social Innovation in Global Networks (DLab) in 2018. Through its public-facing events, DLab created and continues to create the Tokyo Tech Future Chronology, a collection of desirable future scenarios that reflect the community’s shared goals. In this talk, the speaker looks back at the past of semiconductor technology, the future that may open up thanks to this technology, and the “future we want” as envisioned by DLab.
