In shift-multiplexing holographic memory using a surface hologram, unnecessary diffraction noise caused by Raman-Nath diffraction has significant effects on a reconstructed signal. Therefore, the recording and reconstruction characteristics of a time series signal are estimated to be different from the case of a volume hologram. In this study, the characteristics of the time series signal considering the noise peculiar to the surface shift-multiplexing holographic memory were evaluated by numerical simulation and experiment.
