[1J10] Experimental study on flow regime and breakup of Liquid jet discharged from oval nozzle
Keywords:Single-phase jet, Oval nozzle, jet regime, Minimal breakup length
When a liquid single-phase jet is discharged from an oval nozzle, there is a unique wave formed on its surface. The wavelength changes with the flow rate, and cause jet breakup eventually with other instabilities. The minimal breakup length is defined as the minimal length required for the beginning of jet breakup, which is of industrial importance since significant splashing occurs when the broke jet impinges on a solid surface. The present work classified three typical jet regimes of oval nozzle and investigated the minimal breakup length based on the dominant instability in each jet regime experimentally using water as the test fluid. The jet was directed vertical downward.
