In the debris of the melted down Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, a considerable amount of stainless steel of the pressure vessel and zirconium alloy of the fuel cladding tube could be dissolved in addition to the nuclear fuel. Mössbauer spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, and SEM were applied to the simulated debris prepared in an oxidizing atmosphere to clarify the existence form of the fuel matrix and Iron.
