This paper introduces a maintenance-scheduling model for nuclear power plants (NPPs), which utilizes an adaptive parallel particle swarm optimization (PSO) approach to minimize the total number of maintenance activities throughout the lifetime of an NPP while still ensuring the reliability of safety-critical functions. Verifying the model's efficiency and applicability was conducted through a representative case study in which the model successfully generated superior maintenance schedules for nuclear components.
