Keywords:earthquake, frequency, depth of burial

Our research group is studying typical earthquake shaking, such as frequency and magnitude, by shaking a structure we designed. In this study, the structure was built and the lower part was buried in a fluid subterranean structure filled with spherical ball bullets, and the entire subterranean section was shaken. The length of the above-ground part was kept constant while the length of the buried part varied. The aim was to find the ratio between the above- and below-ground part lengths that would not vibrate easily at any vibration frequency. This was accomplished by estimating the amplitude of the model’s vibration. Two items were evaluated: varying the vibration frequency and varying the buried depth.
