[O08-P53] Cyclic changes in the plankton fauna of Tenjin Island

*Kaori Sugiyama1, *Mihana Yuasa1 (1.Ykosuka Senior High School)

Keywords:sea, plankton, Tenjin Island

The plankton is organism that floats on water. The size is generally said micro-sized but some, such as jellyfish, can be over 1 meter in size. Plankton is divided into two types: phytoplankton and zooplankton. We conducted a research on cyclic changes in the plankton fauna. The significance of the resaerch is to learn about the environment around Tenjin Island by examining plankton. We collected from fishing ports and rocky areas in Tenjin Island, fixed in a 10% formalin aqueous solution, and observed and identified using a microscope. As a result, we were able to confirm a total of 33 species of plankton, 28 species at the fishing port and 17 species at the rocky area. Changes in plankton revealed that the number of species increases as water temperature rises and decreases as water temperature cools.
