Keywords: Pisolite, Thin sections, UV-curing resin, The interference color of the granite

In this study, thin sections of pisolite were prepared and analyzed for structure and petrogenic minerals. Based on the data obtained, the formation process was discussed. The pisolite used in this study was from Hatoyama Town, Saitama Prefecture. pisolite is very fragile and difficult to make thin sections. Therefore, two methods were used in the preparation of the thin sections. First, the pisolite was covered with UV-curing resin to increase its strength. Then, the pisolite was observed in a condition that prevented its breakage. Second, granite was used to surround the pisolite and adhere it to the thin sections. The granite and pisolite were cut and polished at the same time during the thin sections preparation in order for the pisolite would not shatter. The thickness of the granite was measured from the interference color of the granite, and the rock-forming minerals in the pisolite were identified.
