Social isolation of the elderly is a serious social problem. To solve this problem, the government and local governments provide support to increase social interaction. It is important that the frequency of social interaction is determined individually based on personality. However, the influence of personality on the relationship between the frequency of social interaction and the satisfaction of the elderly has not been clarified.
In this paper, we analyze the effect of personality on this relationship using data from the German Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP) to develop an optimal interaction frequency model for the elderly. The results show that older adults with low extraversion or high neuroticism tend to be less satisfied when the frequency of social interactions with acquaintances is too high.
