In this study, we demonstrate a surface plasmon resonance (SPR) properties of an aluminum-coated elastomeric grating substrate tuned via mechanical stretching. The aluminum-coated PDMS was used as the SPR substrate. A white-light source was used for SPR excitation and the SPR wavelength change was measured in the visible range at fixed angles.[1,2] First, The PDMS was modified by the treatment with UV/ozone and PDADMAC was deposited by spin-coating technique to form a smooth surface. Then, the layer of aluminum was deposited onto the PDADMAC layer. The SPR excitation wavelength of the aluminum-coated PDMS grating substrate was tuned by simply stretching the substrate from 0.2 mm to 1.0 mm. The SPR properties were shown in Figure 1. The control of SPR properties of the aluminum-coated elastomeric grating substrate exhibited potential applications in optical sensors, etc.[3] Furthermore, gold quantum dots (AuQDs) was deposited onto an aluminum-coated PDMS grating substrate to study the tuning ability of the SPR enhanced fluorescence. The SPR reflectivity curve was shifted to higher wavelength as shown in Figure 2. Further studies relating to the fluorescence of AuQDs on a metal grating substrate will be reported.
