新物質探索の高効率化を図るため、結晶成長データや物性測定データに対して、統計的機械学習手法のガウス過程回帰を活用した。情報科学を援用した材料開発において、情報科学の知識のみならず物性研究者自らのセンスも有用であった点を、酸化物磁性体の基礎研究を例に紹介する。
