[13p-A402-8] Antiferroelectric phase transition and electromechanical responses in dipolar crystals
Keywords:dielectrics, antiferroelectrics, electromechanical response
To control ferroelectric-antiferroelectric phase transitions and cross-coupling effects such as electromechanical responses is an important issue both in material science and condensed matter physics. However, the physical principle behind the controllability accompanying structural phase transformation in crystals remains elusive. Here we show the importance of competition between dipolar interactions and intermolecular steric interactions in such phase transition. We also reveal that this interplay is also essential for cross-coupling properties such as electro-mechanical switching between ferroelectric and antiferroelectric states. Our findings provide important guidelines for the development of functional materials for energy storage via ferroelectric-antiferroelectric phase transitions.
