[21a-A302-3] Ultra-high Young’s modulus and small thermal expansion coefficient oxide glasses using melt-quenching method

Akira Saitoh1 (1.Ehime Univ.)

Keywords:Oxide glass, Young's modulus, Structure

This talk is focused on designing multicomponent oxide glasses (Ta2O5−CaO(MgO)−Al2O3−SiO2) with both ultra-high Young's modulus (~140 GPa) and small coefficient of thermal expansion (~ 4 ppm/K) using a conventional melt-quenching method. The effects of increasing Al2O3 and Ta2O5 contents in Ta2O5–MgO–Al2O3–SiO2–B2O3 glass systems are revealed. The essential oxides of Al2O3 and Ta2O5 are suitable for dense packing structures dominated by a large coordination number of oxygens.
