Keywords:radiation damage of biomolecules, radiolysis of aqueous solution, heavy-ion irradiation

We investigate the mechanism of radiation damage of biomaterials in aqueous solutions by direct detection of reaction products with SIMS method. For amino acid molecules, we found that irradiation-induced molecular dissociation in liquid water environments was significantly reduced compared to that for isolated molecules in the gas-phase form.
