The chemical state of rare earth elements and the local structure around platinum group metals (PGMs) were evaluated by using synchrotron radiation based XAFS and imaging XAFS techniques. It can be seen from the detailed analyses that ratio of trivalent cerium increases as concentration of P2O5 increases in the glass. A similar reduction behavior was detected also for PGM. On the other hand, it was confirmed that the local structure around some elements like Mn, Fe, Zn, Sr, Y and Zr was not changed by adding P2O5.
