Alternative methods for pyrometallurgical separation of rare earth FPs from spent uranium-free TRU metal fuel were investigated in comparison with reference liquid Cd cathode method from the viewpoints of applicability, effectiveness and influence on process design. As a result, application of liquid Ga as an alternative cathode material was considered as the most appropriate choice.
