To systematically investigate the release behaviors of Cs and I, we have developed a new synthesis technique of simulated fuel containing high volatile compound of CsI. The simulated fuel having a high similarity of microstructure with the real irradiated UO₂ fuel from the viewpoint of the grain size and the very fine CsI particles can be achieved by this technique, namely sintering the compacted CsI and Y₂O₃-stabilized ZrO₂ mixed powders with air-tight state.
