Keywords:irradiation effect, volume swelling, amorphization, ageing management

Irradiation-induced amorphization of α-quartz and feldspar leads the volume swelling of concrete aggregates in nuclear power plants. In this research, in order to rationally evaluate concrete deterioration, an ion irradiation test is performed on model materials of aggregates, and the maximum value and the fluence dependence of the expansion amount according to the aggregate type are evaluated by the step height measurement at the irradiated/ unirradiated interface. From the experiments, it was suggested that the amorphization was completed at a low fluence (several eV/atom) and that the amorphized region was deformed toward the surface to increase the surface step.
